KAMO'S PLACE
This is some unconventional fanart I made for my favorite game, The Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker. I've always liked the NPC's of Zelda games; they're unique, memorable, and fun looking. Sometimes you get to see inside their house, which is always a really cool reflection of the characters personalities.
Kamo is an NPC who lives on Windfall island. He's a moody loner with unrequited feelings for his childhood friend, and the "only hobby he needs" is looking at the night sky. You never get to see where he lives in the game, so I fixed that!
CALDERON CONVENIENCE STORE
A little while back, I challenged myself to re-create an illustration that I made while at GVSU. It's an original character, Calvin, coming accross a "convenience store" in the forest. He's been lost and running through the forest for hours, so he's desperate for help. But little does he know, the store belongs to a family of witches.
I challenged myself to design a house that looks practically inhabitable and taken over by nature, but is still lived in. I took inspiration from abandoned countryside houses that lean treacherously to one side.
THE ABANDONED SALT MINE - BACKGROUNDS
These are the backgrounds that went into my animation, "The Abandoned Salt Mine." I was originally going to make them simpler with flat colors (to imitate the style of the animation), but I wanted it to resemble older animations from the 80s/90s. Those usually had cel animation on top of hand painted backgrounds. So, I painted these in Adobe Photoshop.
Most of the time I spent making these was used shading all the salt. It was a lot of work, but I wanted the mines to look like a believable space. To make the environment seem cold and a little scary, I gave the whole scene a blue hue and only one solitary light source.
BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD - BACKGROUNDS
These are background assets from a personal animated project. I wanted to re-animate a portion from an episode of Mike Judge's "Beavis and Butthead." I never ended up animating it fully, but I did create a number of backgrounds based on the ones from the show.
Trio Valley - Initial Concepts
Trio Valley is a concept I've been chewing on for a few years now. It is a town of witches, totally secluded from the rest of the world. They live under a bubble that hides them from anyone unaffected by magic. Their town was founded in the early twentieth century, and everyone is stuck in that style of culture and dress. Below are the first few illustrations I made exploring this idea.
A TRIP THROUGH TRIO VALLEY - ASSETS
For my senior project at Grand Valley, I made Trio Valley into a platformer game. I wanted to make an interactive experience for the player, so they could explore the town at their discretion. I've always enjoyed exploring places in video games, and I wanted to recreate that feeling of curiosity.
